West Gojjam, Amhara — The Hunger Project-Ethiopia (THP-E) is making a meaningful impact in West Gojjam by supporting rural communities through sustainable agriculture and environmental restoration.
In its recent efforts, 567 households received fruit and multipurpose seedlings to improve food security and income. THP-E also provided artificial insemination services to 119 households, benefiting 126 cows, helping improve livestock productivity in the area.
Additionally, 71 households—including 29 led by women—were supported with 213 small ruminants (sheep). To protect these animals, the project also offered livestock vaccination services to prevent disease and reduce losses.
This work is part of a larger five-year initiative titled “A Flourishing Future for Gewocha Forest,” funded by WeForest-Belgium and Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA) through THP-Netherlands. The project focuses on restoring Gewocha Forest, rehabilitating degraded lands, and promoting community-led agroforestry and sustainable livelihoods in 14 kebeles of Jabi-Tehnan Woreda.
Special attention is being given to empowering women and youth, ensuring that environmental restoration goes hand-in-hand with economic development and community resilience.
